Yassmin Mohamed Fashir
Associate
Yassmin Fashir serves as an Associate on the Monitoring and Reporting Team at the Correctional Association of New York (CANY). Before joining CANY, she worked with ProAct Indy’s Project ReAct, an initiative that diverts justice-involved youth from probation toward meaningful community service. Yassmin is also the President of the Darfur Diaspora Collective (DDC), a community-led organization dedicated to amplifying Darfurian voices, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering transnational solidarity.
She earned her BA in International Affairs, East African and Middle Eastern Studies, from Indiana University, with minors in French, Arabic, and Communications and Public Advocacy. After completing courses with students at the Indiana Women’s Prison through the Inside-Out Program, her research turned toward exploring new understandings of justice and a deeper analysis of Guantánamo Bay. She later earned an MA in Human Rights from Columbia University, where she focused on the decolonization of human rights.
