Sara Akari
Associate
Sara Akari is an Associate on the Communication and Policy team. Her role is to advance the organization's mission by driving external communications and media strategy, coordinating public engagement initiatives, and managing digital content consistency across all platforms. Prior to CANY, Sara was a Global Freedom Group Fellow, where she co-authored a Universal Periodic Review (UPR) reported that was submitted to the United Nations Human Rights Council, addressing concerns related to SDG-5 and UNSCR-1325. Sara has built a strong foundation in New York State government and public policy, serving as a Sr. Legislative Operations Aide for the New York State Senate, Legislative Director for the New York State Assembly, and briefly in different New York State Agencies. Sara holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University at Albany (SUNY) and currently volunteers at a non-profit organization helping victims of sexual assault.
