A comprehensive review of the state’s prison-based substance abuse treatment programs, Treatment Behind Bars is based on information gathered during the course of a three-year study conducted by the CA’s Prison Visiting Project. The report includes interviews with experts in the field of substance abuse, treatment participants and staff, observations gathered during visits to 23 prisons across the state, as well as the analysis of over 2,300 prisoner surveys and New York State system-wide data.
