Attica Correctional Facility

Attica Correctional Facility, a maximum-security prison located in Wyoming County in Western New York is the one of most notorious prisons in New York State, if not the country. A shadow was cast upon the facility in early September 1971, when 1,300 incarcerated men rebelled to protest conditions of confinement. The rebellion resulted in a siege of the facility by state troopers that left 39 casualties, including 29 incarcerated people and 10 guards. One of the most violent prisons the Correctional Association has visited, Attica’s infamous history continues to infect the general atmosphere and present-day conditions inside the facility.
